Description
Elements L3.0 is the third installment in Laphroaig’s experimental Elements series. What makes this release extraordinary is its origin: an unplanned kiln fire that burned peat more intensely and for a longer duration than usual. The distillers embraced this anomaly, distilling and maturing the malt to produce a uniquely charred, smoky, and bold expression. It is bottled at cask strength (55.3 % ABV), non–chill filtered, and matured in American oak ex‑bourbon casks, allowing both fire‑driven intensity and classic Islay character to shine through.

Tasting Notes

Appearance
Deep gold, rich and slightly burnished, with natural hue preserved.

Aroma
Charcoal and smoldering peat dominate at first, underpinned by dark chocolate and roasted cocoa tones. Briny sea air and iodine mingle with citrus peel, butterscotch, and spice (cinnamon, plum, date) in the background.

Palate
A powerful peat wave hits immediately, matched by roasted cocoa, bitter dark chocolate, and toasted coffee. As the smoke recedes, succulent dark fruits (blackberry, plum, gooseberry) emerge, layered with crème brûlée and vanilla custard notes. The texture is bold, full‑bodied, and warming.

Finish
Long, dry, and smoky. Iodine, leather, sooty chimney smoke, and maritime salt linger. A whisper of spice and a fade of burnt caramel complete the tail.

Islay is famed for its emphatic peat, sea spray, and maritime influence. Elements L3.0 leans heavily into that legacy while pushing boundaries with its fire‑altered malt character—blending Laphroaig’s signature medicinal smokiness with ash, cocoa, and dark fruit.
